Development of a high-speed image registration system based on a large-format
low-noise CMOS photoreceiver
A high-speed image registration system based on a GSense4040CMT CMOS photoreceiver
(GPixel, KHP) with a 4K×4K pixel format was developed and manufactured for the
telescopes of SAO RAS. A new controller was developed allowing one to control
the modes of operation and the thermal stabilization of the CMOS receiver,
to form video data and transmit it to the control computer with a speed of up
to 10 Gb/s. An effective set of programs for the class of high-speed photo
receivers has been implemented. The main advantages of the developed CMOS
system are the high frame readout rate (two orders of magnitude higher than
the astronomical CCD systems), high sensitivity (comparable to CCD), and the
large size of the receiver, which allows one to use the new image registration
system for conducting quick sky surveys and obtaining images of rapidly varying
astronomical objects. The developed system is expected to be used with the
6-meter BTA telescope for rapid spectroscopy.
